- The third 'Free Semester Career Exploration Camp'
- "With full implementation of Free Semester Program, we will provide career exploration program for students in rural areas and provide them a place for educational happiness to foster their dream and talent" SKKU 'Institute of Educational Policy Research' (Head : Prof. Sang Hoon Bae) and Ministry of Education held career exploration camp for two days, from 24 to 25 November. The main participants of this camp was middle school students in their first and second year. This career exploration camp was held by Ministry of Education to relieve educational and experiential difference between regions and to promote successful settlement of Free Semester program. SKKU can provide chances for students to fully explore their goals and future career with its human and physical resources. SKKU career exploration camp is unique in the fact that through experiencing Confucian culture and field trip to Myeongnyundang and Daeseongjeon, students can develop and experience 1) Personality education linked with traditional culture education, 2) Career exploration based on self-understanding, 3) Career aptitude test program through SKKU counseling center, and 4) Mentoring program with university students with diverse experience. Each student can discover their charateristics and start planning their career path. SKKU-Ministry of Education carer exploration camp was held three times. The first camp on 29-30 September, second camp was held on 27-28 October and third camp was recently held on 24-25 November.

- Suwon City named a road after SKKU
- Suwon City assigned the honored name “Sungdae-ro” to the road which is located around 1600m of SKKU’s Natural Science Campus and the botanical garden. The honor can be given under special circumstances such as corporation installation and international exchanges. SKKU requested to receive the road name last October. The Committee of Road Name Address reviewed the request and decided to give the name due to recognizing SKKU’s contribution to the city as a landmark of local society; as well as the positive effect the university has had for raising the brand value of Suwon City. According to the Road Name Address Act, “Sungdae-ro” will be used in conjunction with the legal road name (Ilwol-ro, Yuljun-ro) for 5 years, which can be extended after a review from the committee. - College of Education held a Ceremony for Successful Candidates of Public Administration Examination
- College of Education (Dean: Jae Bong YOO) held a celebration ceremony on Nov 16th (Wed) for those students who passed the Public Administration Examination as an educational administrator. Dean of College of Education, the Chair of department of education, and two students: Ji Won YOO (Education, ’12) and Seung Jae LEE (Classical Chinese Education, ’08) participated on the event, which was organized in order to appreciate student’s efforts that enhanced the SKKU’s honor and to become exemplary colleagues. Dean of College of Education gave a congratulatory message as “be an educational administrator with confidence and keep in mind that you are proud alumni of SKKU.” Student Ji Won YOO said “I will study hard for the rest of the semester” while student Seung Jae LEE said “I won’t forget my promise at the examination interview.” Student Ji Won WOO is the youngest candidate who passed Public Administration Examination for Education in 2016, and has become an exemplary to other students in the College of Education.

- 2016 Seokdam(昔潭) Scholarship Donation Ceremony
- 2016 Seokdam(昔潭) Scholarship Donation Ceremony On November 7, 2016 Seokdam(昔潭) Scholarship Donation Ceremony for the students in Department of Education was held at 600 Anniversary Hall. Professor YOO Jae Bong, Dean of College of Education delivered the scholarship to the students. Seokdam Scholarship was established in 2011 by LEE Wan-Keun('61), the CEO of Shinsung Solar Energy Corporation and the honorary president of SKKU alumni, in order to encourage the students in Department of Education. Each semester, LEE Wan-Keun made endowment of scholarship to 5 students, 2,000,000won per student. Up to this day, the total amount of scholarship endowed is 120 million won, to 60 students. CEO LEE Wan-Keun mentioned "With the attitude to endure hardship, our alumnus should keep in mind that each one of you are an educator". CHUNG So Hyun, as the student representative, read an address that she will try hard to become an individual with competency, and be the inspiration to other students. Professor YOO Jae Bong(Dean of College of Education), KO Jang Wan(Dean of Department of Education), CHO Moon Heum(Professor of Department of Education) attended the Seokdam Scholarship Donation Ceremony. Department of Education decided to put more effort in learnfare for students, by constituting a scholarship committee around the recipients of the scholarships.

- Prof. Sang Hoon BAE gave a Presentation at World Bank Knowledge Sharing Workshop
- Prof. Sang Hoon BAE (College of Education), the chair of SKKU University Education Innovation Center was invited to the World Bank, MOE, KRIVET Knowledge Sharing Workshop held on Aug. 31st ~ Nov. 1st at Oakwood Hotel, to give presentations about SKKU’s cases on education innovation. The workshop was co-hosted by the World Bank, Korea’s Ministry of Education and Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training under the theme of “Developing Socioemotional Skills for the 21th Century”; and many policy administrators and experts including Vice-minister Young LEE participated. At the workshop, experts of the World Bank, ministers and vice-ministers from around the world discussed and gave presentations about education innovation for socioemotional skills, which have been magnified as an important capability in this era of 4th industrial revolution. SKKU was the only case in Korea that was introduced at the workshop. Prof. Sang Hoon BAE gave presentations on “Developing Socioemotional Skills in Higher Education in Korea”, and introduced cases and performance of C-School platforms and Convergence Education.

- College of Education held the ‘3rd Education Forum [DESIGN YOUR LIFE]’
- College of Education (Dean: Jae Bong YOO) held the 3rd 杏亶 Education Forum [DESIGN YOUR LIFE] on Nov 1st (Tue) 9:00AM – 12:00PM at Business Building Room 33B101, with the special guest Hyung Jung CHO, the President of Bit Computer Corporation. The special guest invitation was arranged by prof. Mi Ryang KIM of Computer Education in College of Education. Mr. CHO of Bit Computer gave a lecture with the subject “Future? Tsunami of Chaos is coming” and he talked about “Things to prepare for 20’s in the accordance of change in jobs from technology development” later on. He emphasized that “problem solving skills are more important than spec in order to get jobs, and if you have problem solving skills, even start-up is possible” from the experience he had in his 20s. Also, he talked about time management, immersion, and patriotism he had developed to become a software expert, and successfully delivered the message that “without challenge, without outcome.” At the end of the forum, he highlighted the importance of software education by saying that “like USA and India’s case, our country should offer mandatory software education from the lower grades so that many young people live in a bright future. Learning software is hard at the beginning, but it can become a very fun activity to play once you reach a certain level, like other activities. So don’t be afraid and challenge yourself to become software experts.” At the faculty meeting, College of Education agreed to continue holding 杏亶 Education Forum, and they asked each department to recommend lecturers or alumni.

- Special Lecture from 2016’s Winner of The Seoul Peace Prize
- A special lecture will be given by Denis Mukwege, the winner of The Seoul Peace Prize 2016. The Seoul Peace Prize was established in 1990 to commemorate the success of the 24th Olympic Games held in Seoul, Korea, an event in which 160 nations from across the world took part, creating harmony and friendship. The Seoul Peace Prize Cultural Foundation has nominated Denis Mukwege from Democratic Republic of the Congo as the winner for 2016. This special lecture will provide great opportunities to think about the value of peace, and to understand ongoing activities in the pursue of a peaceful world. - SKKU's New Challenges are Leading to Innovation in Universities
- Last year, SKKU announced the ‘New Challenge Project’ based on 5 sectors; (1) Convergence Education (2) Research (3) Global Alliance (4) Industrial Collaboration and (5) Innovation on administration, to become a world leading university. This project is a concrete blueprint that contains action plans of VISION 2020, which aims to be ranked within the top 10 in Asia and top 50 in the world by 2020. (1) Research-focused University Leading Future Industry Performance is visible with various indexes in research and industrial collaboration - Published 4,865 SCI research articles, doubled from 2,782 in 2010 - Research fund is $300 mil, increased by 50% from 2010 - The number of international research papers per faculty is 0.98 (No.1 on Korea) - Income from Technology Transfer is increased from $2mil (2010) to 3 mil won (2015) (2) Software Courses to Foster Creative Talents SKKU is focusing on cultivating talented individuals who have both convergence thinking ability and professional knowledge. In particular, SKKU is striving to foster software experts by offering software courses to students in human and social sciences. Also, the College of Software was established recently by merging with Software and Computer Engineering to give a wider scope of education in this field. (3) Professional and Practical Graduate School 31 teams, the largest number among private universities in Korea, were selected for BK21+ because of SKKU’s greatness in the scholarship and research environment. SKKU has 2 IBS (Institute for Basic Science) and receives support through research funds totaling about $10 mil annually over 10 years. Also, the Grand ICT Research Center has just opened in Pangyo Techno Valley and is expected to become the center of technology development /transfer/patent processes for venture businesses.

- SKKU ranked 106th in 2015-16 QS University Rankings, 12 places higher
- The QS (Quac-Quarelli Symonds) assessed rankings based on the performances of 3,800 universities around the world. SKKU demonstrated a huge improvement placing 106th, 12 places higher than the previous year. Four universities – Seoul National University (35th), KAIST (46th), POSTECH (83th), and Korea University (98th) –made the top 100. While SKKU (106th), Yonsei University (112th), and Hanyang University (171th), were ranked within the top 200. Universities in the USA and UK were placed mostly in the top 10; MIT (1st), Stanford University (2nd), Harvard (3rd), University of Cambridge (4th), Caltech (5th).
