In the current Internet era, computer science is a fast-changing and innovative discipline. The mission of the Department of Computer Education (DCSE) is therefore to educate students and nurture them as future computer science teachers at junior high schools, that will impart their capabilities to operate and manage IT systems, server systems and PCs.
Training students as teachers at junior high schools is very critical in providing guidance to junior high students. This can be done by instilling a structured education curriculum based on computer-related subjects and implementing an efficient education system.
Trainee teachers' responsibilities also include seeing computing potential in students and fostering them as leaders of the country in the computing field. To that extent, the DCSE offers programs in computer technology and educational approaches from engineering perspectives.
Upon graduation, students of the DCSE are given second degree junior high school teacher certificates, with which they become eligible as computer teachers at private junior high and high schools. As well as this, they can sit for the National Teacher Appointment Tests to earn qualifications as teachers for national or public junior high and high schools.
As the DCSE offer JITE to teach current technologies in the industry, job opportunities for graduates vary including jobs in the areas of Internet Systems, Software Development, Multimedia Systems, e-commerce, Information Communications, IT Security and other computer-related professions.
Furthermore, they can continue their studies in computer-related graduate programs. Likewise, the DCSE opens the road to diverse jobs that are highly needed both in academic and industrial communities. The DCSE provides the infrastructure to help its students select their future direction depending on their aptitude and capabilities.

1. Facilities
The DCSE facility provides a multimedia laboratory and seminar space. The multimedia laboratory has over 40 computers and a server system. Lab assistants manage various equipment to support classes, projects, and practices for students. The seminar room is for discussions and seminars and includes server systems, five computers and projects. In the TA room, students can borrow equipment (laptops, digital cameras, etc) for courses, projects and practices.
2. Exchanges and Partnerships
The DCSE is in partnership with several institutes such as; Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity, and Korea Education & Research Information Service, to contribute to middle school curriculum for information subjects. Partnerships with Naver includes the ‘Play Software’ program to conduct development and quality improvement of entry, which is an educational programming language development by Naver.
The DCSE is in partnership with more than 30 middle and high schools for teaching practices. Students in the College of Education can apply for teaching practices at international schools in Vietnam (Hanoi) and China (Beijing) too. Students can acquire teaching skills at those schools via 4-week teaching practices.
For international exchanges, students of the DCSE can participate in an exchange program at University of South Dakota in United States.

The Department of Computer Education (DCSE) in SKKU is one of the best departments in Korea who fosters teachers' skills and abilities for information subjects.
The courses of the DCSE are designed to follow JITE (Just-in-Time Education). More specifically, the programs are formed to equip students with practical up-to-date technologies that are used in industry, so that graduates can utilize at work, what they learned at school. Therefore, the curriculum is built as a combination of hands-on experience and in-depth theories, and also serves educational engineering purposes by training students in teaching approaches to prepare them for their future careers in teaching.
Graduates in our department are acknowledged for their competencies in computer education. There is a close bond among students and alumni in DCSE and alumni in our department willingly help junior colleague to find their future careers.
