Along with globalization, the significance of English as an international language has increased rapidly. In Korea, it is necessary to have English skills over a certain sufficient level; therefore, English is regarded as a mandatory course in every school. In this regard, there is a growing demand for English teachers who are professionally trained.
The Department of English Education aims to foster competent English teachers. We offer a specialized educational experience based on the linguistic features of English and the principles of foreign language teaching to students. Our graduates play an important role in various educational institutions including elementary, secondary and higher institutions.
Department in Detail 
1. Courses and Curriculums
Students who are following a curriculum to become a teacher should complete more than 7 courses (14 credits), in more than 5 fields of English Education.
2. Special Entry Requirements (Graduate)

Those who want to enter as an English Education major in the Special Graduate school should have the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a similar major (ex. English, English Education, English Translation)

Completion of minimum 36 credits in majors stated above
3. Facilities
All Special Graduate School students preparing for the Teacher Appointment Test can use reading room in the Hoam Buidling (50103). Also, there is a room equipped with computers and printers for students to practice teaching skills and produce learning materials.

Students, who have the goal of becoming a teacher, can obtain a Teacher’s Certificate as a Secondary School Teacher (Grade II) in English, along with their graduate degree. Following our curriculum, students can select a variety of diverse educational courses.
Also, like other majors in Special Graduate School in College of Education, students in English Education major can also replace their thesis with either taking 6 more credits in their last semester, or follow curriculum to obtain a Teacher's Certificate.
